SkyDoc™ Aerostat Weather Station
|
We offer the SkyDoc™
Aerostat in several sizes and materials.
Capable of
Operating in Hurricane Force Winds
Since 1989
The SkyDoc™ weather station is designed for first
responders to hazardous material incidents. The weather station provides
important real-time information for monitoring and responding to incidents.
The station works in conjunction with CAMEO/ALOHA software that enables
responders to monitor plume dispersion. CAMEO was developed by Chemical
Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Office (CEPPO) and the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration Office of Response and Restoration (NOAA). The
software was developed for front-line chemical emergency planners and
responders. CAMEO helps in evaluating and predicting dispersion patterns. The
portable nature of the SkyDoc™ Weather Station and its long range radio
allows responders to monitor the situation in real-time and from a safe
distance. |
|
Due to recent events and
the creation of the Department of Homeland Defense many Hazmat teams now face
new challenges and responsibilities. For this reason the SkyDoc™ Weather
Station includes a radiation detector; this sensor gives first responders an
early warning for the presence of radiation. We hope that nobody ever needs the
sensor but hopefully the fact that it is present will give those on the front
line a little peace of mind.
The SkyDoc™ Weather Station has
the following features: |
Rapid
Deployment: The
SkyDoc™ Weather Station Electronics are packed in a single heavy duty
transport case. The case contains a tripod for ground sensing, sensor
assembly, and display and battery chargers. The sensor assembly fits into the
case as a single unit and does not require any assembly. The display is
housed in its own self contained case that fits into the main transport case.
The tripod has twist-locking connections and does not require any tools. It
takes less than 2 minutes to get the system setup for ground use and
operational. Additional time is required for inflating the aerostat, unless it
is housed fully inflated. In just a few minutes the complete airborne package
can be relaying valuable information back to the ground from heights of 100
to 1000 feet. |
Electronic
Compass: The
sensor assembly contains an internal electronic compass that ensures that the
reported wind direction is accurate regardless of the assembly's orientation.
|
|
Spread
Spectrum Radios: FCC approved 900 MHz spread-spectrum radios are used to ensure quality
interference free reception between the station and display even at ranges of
up to 7 miles. Ranges in excess of a 1/4 mile require clear line of sight. |
Computer
Interface: Integrated
serial interface that is compatible with CAMEO/ALOHA. This industry standard
software suite was developed by the EPA and NOAA specifically for hazmat
teams. It is free software and available here EPA. |
Radiation
Detector:
The sensor assembly includes a nuclear radiation detector for early warning
and general monitoring of radiation levels. The display shows both the
current level in REMs and total exposure in REM
hours. Note: This sensor is designed to function as an early warning and does
not replace hand held Geiger counters. |
Sensors:
The SkyDoc™
Weather Station has all the standard wind speed, wind direct and temperature
sensors required by CAMEO/ALOHA. In addition, the display reports barometric
pressure, relative humidity, dew point, heat index and nuclear radiation.

LED
Display: The
display uses seven segment LED display for reporting parameters. These
displays have the advantage over LCD displays in that they are bright and
easily readable at a distance even in low light conditions. They also do not
suffer from the limited viewing angle that is common with LCD displays. |
Multiple
Units / Multiple Displays: Sensors may be coded so that one site can use multiple systems without
the chance of interference. Alternatively one HSA-1 sensor assembly can be
used with multiple RDI-1 displays. Rugged Construction: The sensor assembly
is constructed of durable polyvinyl chloride, fiberglass and aluminum. These
materials are non-corrosive and non-sparking. The wind sensor is made from
durable Lexan™/ABS and is strong enough to be
permanently attached to the sensor assembly. This makes setup and take downs
quick and easy. The display is built into a durable plastic carry case that
simply closes when not in use and requires no other packaging. |
Affordable:
Hazmat
weather stations have traditionally been an expensive investment for first
responders. With decreasing budgets and increasing responsibilities we see
the need for an affordable unit. This resulted in the creation of the SkyDoc™
Weather Station with all the features but without the cost. |
5 Year
Warranty:
The SkyDoc™ Weather Station is solidly engineered and built; it is designed
to give many years of service. We therefore are offering an unmatched 5 year
no hassle warranty for the electronics. |

This Helium platform aerostat is designed to meet
criteria that have been requested by many operators of aerial specialized
equipment. This aerostat has been developed through intense research of
fabrics, materials and designs that are tuned to the needs of these users. The
aerostat is designed with state of the art components that offer optimum
performance and reliability.
The single-ply aerostat is made from a single-ply
material consisting of urethane.
The 2 ply aerostat is made with a nylon shell and
utilizes a bladder for holding the Helium and must be larger than the
single-ply.
The tether apex is fabricated for attaching sensor
equipment and other platforms.
The aerostat is stabilized better than a blimp and
is designed for ease of assembly and set up.
If you do not have a leak, it will not need much additional
helium (Temperature variations will expand and contract the helium. The single
ply aerostat will expand and contract with the pressure.) If it is punctured,
it can be repaired.
The 2 ply aerostat has a pressure release valve that
will open with increased temperature. If there is major damage to the aerostat,
an inexpensive replacement bladder will facilitate the repair.
The aerostat design allows for extreme lift with
increased wind speed.

RECOVERY
Recovery is not required until the operation has been completed. Recovery is quick
and easy with use of the optional deflation pump. The compacted aerostat is
then ready to re-pack into the container for storage until the next deployment.
TRANSPORTATION & STORAGE
is easily transported by truck, vessel or aircraft.
New – Truck bed or Trailer Transport Systems

SPECIAL NOTES
The special
design of the SkyDoc™ aerostat allows for increased lift with increased winds.
Thereby the system stays in the sky in Hurricane Force Winds. Since it can stay
aloft, no special enclosure is required for the system during heavy winds. Once
it has been launched, the system will operate until the task is completed.
Because of its special Patent Pending design, the amount of Helium required is
keep to a minimum.
Due to the
bow of the tether line in high flying configurations, a maximum of 5,000 feet
of tether line is recommended.
Single Ply
Aerostat is not recommended for areas that may have flying ice particles.
NOTE: Altitude, ambient temperature,
attack angle, payload, wind conditions, air density, and about 25 other factors
determine the final lifting force available.
